These beef recalls due to e. coli O157:H7 contamination will keep occurring until the national health awareness on the beef industry is established. More lives will be at stake and securing people's health will be jeopardized. What we also need to understand is that this will not stop unless the very root cause of its problem is recognized. And that is bringing back a more sustainable approach to ranching. By recognizing the true value and benefit of safe and humane approach to beef and dairy production which involves decreasing the the industrial feedlot operation by 50% and increasing the government subsidies to small family-owned ranchers who most likely can provide the consumers more natural and healthy meat products without the practice of hormonal and antibiotic treatments, not to mention the price tags on grass fed beef products will be considerably lower.
It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out the problem that seems to be becoming more predominant as we see more and more industrialization of our food supply. The more we depend on and support mass production in the meat industry the more we gamble with food contamination and health risks issues. We need to understand and be more aware of the danger that conventional meat industry poses to our health. We need to show more support to the idea of bringing back a system where consumers have more control of their buying option and more information on how and where their food is coming from.
