Community Supported Ranching (CSR)
is similar to Community Supported Agriculture, in that each person owns a share of an individual animal, in this case cattle, and when the animal is slaughtered and processed each share holder gets an equal portion of the meat from processing. The shareholders are paying the rancher to raise and care for their cow or steer for them and to get it processed and shipped to them.

Unlike agriculture, where a bad year can result in poor crops or different kinds of crops being delivered to the shareholder, the CSR is more consistent because the animal always grows. The share price stays fixed once it is paid for the raising of the cow or steer but is reviewed every year to account for weather and the going price of cattle on the open market. The rancher is paid a better price then he or she would get at auction. »»
